The Database for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in Wells, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel

Unknown

Enslaver: Capt. Tobias Lord

Status (enslaved, free or both): enslaved

Known dates: 1761

John Lord (1693-1761) of Berwick left "my Negro man" to his son Tobias. John Lord's will, dated May 26th, 1761, states "I give to my son Tobias Lord my Negro man." - Lord, p. 245

While the "Negro man" inherited by Capt. Tobias Lord in 1761 may possibly be the same individual as the "Free Person" residing with Capt. Tobias Lord in 1800, they are presumed in this database to be two separate individuals.
