Capt. Tobias Lord (1724-1809) inherited a "Negro man" from his father, John Lord of Berwick, in 1761. He also had 1 "All Other Free Persons" listed with his family in the 1800 Census for Arundel.
John Lord's will, dated May 26th, 1761, states "I give to my son Tobias Lord my Negro man." - Lord, p. 245
While the "Negro man" inherited by Tobias Lord in 1761 may possibly be the same individual as the "Free Person" residing with Tobias Lord in 1800, they are presumed in this database to be two separate individuals.
Tobias Lord moved to "the upper way in Arundel" in 1747. "We may now view Tobias as a prosperous farmer and also a manufacturer of bricks ... Capt. Tobias Lord had six sons in the Revolutionary Army at different times during the war ... In 1763 Capt. Tobias Lord was numbered among the 'Proprietors' of Arundel." - Lord, pp. 168-70.
Lt. Tobias Lord, the son of Capt. Tobias Lord, also has an entry in this database.
