The 1900 Census for Kennebunk lists 7 Black "servants" residing with the family of Edwin and Mary Parsons and their two very young children. Harriet was one of those 7, and is listed as Black, age 52, single, POB: GA, occ: Nurse.

Having been born in Georgia in 1848, Harriet may well have been enslaved in her childhood.
