The 1900 Census for Kennebunkport lists Alexander Friska, Black male, age 17, single, occ: Hostler; POB: unstated, residing as a boarder of Samuel Jeffrey.

While his place of birth is not stated, he was born in the year that slavery was ended in Massachusetts (which included Maine).

Note: a hostler is a groom or stableman, who is employed to take care of horses, usually at an inn.
